1. First off, I am so disappointed in the Recaro convertible car seat and it will be going back immediately. I was browsing the healthycar.org to see how some of Scarlett's toys ranked in terms of toxic levels and the Recaro car seat was listed as one of the most toxic car seats! What the F Recaro! So, I of course spent an insane amount of time online trying to find the least toxic car seat (I mean I don't want my child sitting in something that is filled with lead and all kinds of nasty chemicals). I found that the Orbit G2 Convertible car seat was probably the safest bet, but also the most expensive. So, I am still searching to find the safest and least toxic car seat. Do any of you mommas have any good recommendations?? Also, have you checked your car seat on healthycar.org. Just type your make and model in the search bar and see what it comes out to.

2. I was a total slacker yesterday and skipped Tried and True Thursday. I will be back with that series next Thursday.

Miss Scarlett has the best cry face ever!

I had so much fun making a gender reveal cake! It was filled with blue! ;)

5. I just ordered a set of these for baby girl.

Here's to the most random post! Happy weekend!

Keeping it Real

Wednesday, June 26, 2013

I started this little blog to be a journal of our life. Not every detail, but more snippets of everyday life. With that comes the realness of life as well. We are not perfect. Most days I wear sweats and Scarlett wears just a diaper or maybe a mismatched outfit. I never want to portray that our house is always perfectly clean, my kids are always wearing the latest and greatest, or that I am sitting here typing this in a full face of make-up and perfectly ironed dress! The truth is that we wake up late some days, we wear the same shirt 2 days in a row, we forget to do the dishes, we leave our toys everywhere, we LIVE life.  And that is the beauty of life, so remember to be proud of your life and your worn to many times t-shirt. ;)

I just had to share this adorable website with you all. 2Modern has everything from modern furniture to baby toys. I love to add some modern pieces in my house from time to time. Here's what I have my eye on from 2Modern.

When we start thinking about having another baby, this just might be the crib we choose this time! I love the clean lines of this crib.

We have a tulip kitchen table now, but I have never seen one quite like this.

How cute would this be in a playroom for all your child's creations?!

Love this laundry basket or you could use it for toys.

I think my favorite color is blue, because I always gravitate towards blue things for our house.

This bad boy is on it's way to our house.  S has quickly grown out of her infant carseat and is ready for something more comfortable. I looked a lot into convertible car seats and this one was the winner, plus its pretty cool they have been designing seats for race cars over 100 years. I thought my husband would love that.

"RECARO is an internationally recognized leader in seating safety, ergonomics, comfort and style.  Over RECARO’s 100 years of history we have designed seats for the world’s most prestigious automobiles, race cars and award winning child safety restraints.

In the ProSERIES we’ve taken everything we know about seating safety and miniaturized it."

When did you all get a new carseat? S is only 6 1/2 months, but she a big baby for her age. Her luscious little thighs always are smushed in her current seat.

Favorite Face Wash
Recommended by Kimberly Snyder, this cleanser is nothing but short of a miracle. I love this stuff and I have super sensitive skin. This stuff helps keep my skin clear and exfoliated.

Read this for some of the best non toxic beauty products. She talks a lot about Vapour. I have tried their concealer which I use daily.

Brain Dump

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Have I posted these shelves? I'm not sure, but I just love me some open shelving in the kitch as I like to call it. I don't have any rhyme or reason when it comes to decorating, I just kinda pick what I like and find a home for it my house. I don't like to have to much of anything, but I do like to have a few special trinkets here and there. That owl is one of my favorite little friends in our kitchen. He once housed some yummy cookies when I was prego, but now he's retired to the top of that shelf. These shelves are awesome, they are very sturdy and hold a lot. My shelves are kind of redecorated now (picture to come later when I'm not lazy). Why you ask, because my decorator mother came over and helped herself to re-organizing those shelves. I was kind of mad at first, but then I secretly was like "that looks so much better" in my head

Did anybody watch Trueblood Sunday? This show keeps getting weirder and weirder, but we keep coming back to it. Please tell me other people watch this show.

Lastly, I have been trying to get all the paperwork completed to get my teaching certificate transferred to Kansas so I don't have to do it down the road. Holy Moly, it's a lot of work. I swear it costs more to transfer that thing to another state then a whole grocery shopping trip to the store. I mean it's not like teacher's make that much in the first place. Geesh Kansas!

Random post, but when I took an expresso shot at 8pm at night and am having a hard time falling asleep this what you get, shelves and trueblood.

Getting Sweaty

Monday, June 17, 2013

The sad truth is I pretty much live in workout clothes 5 out of the 7 days of the week! I may workout that day or not. I will admit I am one of those people who wears workout clothes even if I am not going to the gym that day. I never thought I would be that type of person, but having a little baby, it sometimes makes it easier just to wear something comfy. You hear me ladies? I love lululemon like every other person in America, but their stuff can get PRICEY! The other day I was in Old Navy and I found their workout section and I was shocked how cute and comparable their workout stuff was. I really love the quality and styles. I will for sure be shopping in this part of the store more often! Here are some things I want to pick up next time I'm in the store.

P.S. You can get all these items for $10 each! What!!

Happy Father's Day

We had a wonderful Father's Day over here. Spoiled my hubby with breakfast in bed and then let him choose what he wanted to do all day.

Love these 2 men so much. To my hubby and my daddy, I love you both with all of my heart forever and always...

Carpet Cleaners

I first looked into carpet cleaners when I spilt coffee all over my white dining room rug! I ran to the store and got something called Triple Action something spot remover. I quickly got home and sprayed ( or poured) that all over my stain. I almost threw up at the smell. It was disgusting! Plus, the stain was still there! As soon as I got over the fact that I paid 12.99 for a bottle of crap I got on the Internet to research natural stain removers for carpet. I also turned that nasty bottle over to find a whole slew of ingredients I couldn't even pronounce! There are a ton of natural stain carpet removers on the Internet that you can try, but after trying a bunch of combinations, I found this one to be my favorite and easiest to put together in a flash!

Mix 1 cup water with 1/4 teaspoon of liquid dish detergent in one bowl.

Mix 2 cups water with 1 cup distilled vinegar in another bowl.

What you do:

1. Vacuum the area you want to clean.

2. Take your water and dish detergent mixture, dip a clean rag in it and blot stained area.

3. Now, take your vinegar mixture and blot the stained area until the stain disappears in front of you eyes! ;)

See easy peasy! Now, I am sure you all have these ingredients in your house and I am sure you are like me and have a hidden stain somewhere in your house. Happy Cleaning!'

*Next time I will put each of these mixtures in a spray bottle so I will have them ready to go when I need them. By the way I only use the dish detergent mixture on most of my stains around the house and I only use the vinegar one if the stain is really bad. Here is the before and after of a stain that has been bothering me for a while.

Shopping at Whole Foods without Breaking the Bank!

Wednesday, June 12, 2013

A lot of people would say it is impossible to eat organic and still be frugal, but I am here to tell you that's so not the case. Let's be honest I am a stay at home mom now and lost my income where it allowed us not to look at our grocery bill and just put whatever we wanted into our cart. Now that we have to be more careful when it comes to loading up our cart with healthy grocery staples I thought I would share how we get around it and still buy organic.

I do most of my grocery shopping at Whole Foods and sometimes at Trader Joes (The only thing I don't like about TJ is their meat/fish selection)

Here are my tips and example of a regular weekly visit at Whole Foods

1. First off I do not go to the grocery store with a list, because I plan my dinners when I get there. See tip #5.

2. We buy fish every week. Stick to either Salmon or Tilapia, because they tend to be cheapest. When buying meats at Whole Foods, look for sales. I always by what's on sale and either freeze it for future dinners or add that to my dinner menu.

3. Stay on the perimeter of the store, meaning once you start going down all those ailes and buying stuff like chips, soups, etc. that's when your bill starts adding up.

4. Buy only Veggies and fruits that are on sale and build your meals around that. Which leads me to #5.

5. When it comes to your dinner planning and your trying to save money and be healthy. Do not pick recipes that have a ton of ingredients in them. For example, we usually do fish, veggie that was on sale, and some lentils, cous cous or just a salad. Cheapo! Each meal during the week usually costs no more then $10 a day.

6. Set a budget. We like to spend no more then $100 on groceries each week and that includes food for lunches and dinners during the week. We usually don't eat out at all! Maybe once a week if that.

7. Lastly, pretty much everyone knows this one DO NOT go to the grocery store HUNGRY!

*If I'm running out of something like butter or olive oil, I of course get those things, but since I don't get those things every week I didn't include those on the sample grocery list.

  • Organic veggies (I always buy spinach, kale,& avocados whether they are on sale or not)
  • Organic fruit (I always buy bananas and whatever fruits and veggies I am using to make for Scarlett's food that week)
  • One type of fish
  • 4 types of meat
  • coconut milk and creamer
  • Greek yogurt
  • lentils
  • nut mix (for snacks)
  • Near East Cous Cous
  • Lara Bars (I usually only buy these at Target, because I think they are cheapest there and these are also for snacks)
  • canned white chicken for quick cheap lunches
  • Organic Chicken broth to boil the lentils in or use it for other stuff too
  • Organic oatmeal for Scarlett and us
  • lunch meat and cheese from Whole Foods for Wes's lunches
  • La croix
  • eggs

Well there you have it! This is what a weekly run to the grocery store looks like for us. I do like to get a lot of my organic stuff at TJ's since it's so much cheaper, but like I said above I just don't like their meat and fish selection. Yes, it's so annoying that I have to go to 2 grocery stores sometimes. I don't always do that, like this week I just went to Whole foods. I know there are probably better ways to save  when it comes to staying healthy and eating Organic, but this is what I have found that works best for our family. How do you save money when it comes to grocery shopping.

P.S. I promise to post all about my herb garden soon. It has basil, cilantro, fennel, brussel sprouts, banana peppers and more in it, so I get a lot of my stuff from there too!

What's in my diaper bag?

Monday, June 10, 2013

I love seeing what people put in their diaper bags or purses, so I thought I would join in all the fun and show you my diaper bag and what I carry in it.

Marc by Marc Jacobs 'Pretty Nylon Eliz-a-Baby' Diaper bag in Knockout pink: My mom got this diaper  bag for me for my first baby shower! I absolutely love that it doesn't look like a typical diaper bag. Since it's nylon it says really clean and there are pockets everywhere in this thing to keep stuff in. My husband always says if Scarlett could pick out colors she would defiantly pick out this one! It's very bright, but that's what I love about it. Diaper bags are suppose to be fun!

Honest Diapers/365 travel wipes/Sophie/Skip Hop Pronto changing system/Dapple pacifier wipes/Mam Pacifier/Aden + Anais Burpy bib/ Aden + Anais muslin blanket/Marc jacobs wallet /extra outfit/sun hat/pottery barn wet bag

*These are the things that are always stocked in my diaper bag. All the little things stay in the 2 wet bags. I am not sure where the polka dot wet/dry bag is from, because it was a gift. I also add a bottle and food if I am going to be gone long.

Tried and True Thursday

Thursday, June 6, 2013

It's no secret to anyone that knows me that I try and live an organic lifestyle as much as possible. I am not perfect, so yes I use disposable diapers and wear clothing that is NOT made out of hemp, but I try to free our lives of chemicals when I can. So, I thought I would share every Thursday what I have found that works for our family from skincare, baby items, and household tricks.

First up, my favorite all purpose cleaner.

Mix 8oz Ms. Meyers all purpose (my favorite) or vinegar with water in a 24 oz spray bottle.

This stuff works for everything! I clean my windows, bathrooms, counter tops, even my hardwood floors with it. Recently, I got coffee all over my white cabinets in my kitchen and I sprayed a little of this on it and it cleaned it right up! Ms. Meyers is a great brand. I do use the vinegar sometimes if I am out of Ms. Meyers. If you do decide to mix vinegar instead, make sure you add a couple drops of essential oil to your mixture so your spray smells nice. Happy cleaning!

Fast & Easy Breakfast

Wednesday, June 5, 2013

I can't start the day without breakfast! I have to eat something! This is my go-to on late mornings. The mornings when I have more time I will scramble some eggs. What do you all eat in the mornings? P.S. Coconut Sugar is a great alternative to regular sugar. Tastes better too!

6 Month Must Haves

Tuesday, June 4, 2013

So when I compiled this little list I had a lot to put on it, but I wanted to list the things I use every single day and the things that have made my life as mom a little bit easier.

Honest Diapers: You have heard me rave about this company, so no need on a explanation here.

Fisher Price Step and Play Piano: Recommended by The Honeybee Blog. Scarlett loves this thing! There is so much for her to do and since she is a music girl she especially likes how every time she steps it plays music.

Sophie the Giraffe: I never believed all the hype about this product until Scarlett proved everyone's point. This is the number 1 toy that I have to have with me at all times.

Bumbo: She is not quite ready for her high chair yet, so we use this everyday to feed her food.

Mam Pacifiers: Scarlett hated EVERY single pacifier except this one. She is such a pacifier girl. I swear we leave about 5 of these in her crib at night, just in case she drops one out of her crib, which happens every night.

Beaba: I have talked about this too. I use this all the time to make her food. When we do travel or are on the go I will buy Plum Organics to carry with me. P.S. They are having a Spring Closeout Sale.
