Staying Organized with kids

Wednesday, October 22, 2014

As I was cleaning and organizing things before baby boy makes his arrival I thought I would share some ways that I stay organized with kids. We live in a small older house, so staying organized is key for me. That means I don't like to accumulate a lot of stuff and everything needs to have its place. I hope to share over time more ways I keep myself sane, I mean organized ;)

First up, I think it's really important to have a file system that you can add any important paperwork too for your kiddos. I just bought this one from target for less then $10 and bought some color coded hanging files to go inside. I made the same tabs for each kid (Medical, Keepsakes, College+bank account information, and 2014) The year tab is for sticking in arts and craft that I will eventually put into a scrapbook.

Next, I am the worst person on keeping my calendar in my phone. I just have to write it down. I purchased this adorable paint chip calendar from Paper Source a while back and it has been perfect for keeping the family on track of what we have to do.

Well, that's it for today...Do you all have any tips for staying organized with kids, I would love to hear some ideas.

Five on Friday

Linking up with (Darci,Natasha, Christina, and april)

1. If you live near a Whole Foods get this bag of white chocolate chips and then follow the recipe on the back! Best cookies ever! I wish I still had it, but I threw out the bag.

2. We went to another Pumpkin Patch! They had all kinds of animals and Scarlett just loved it.
3. Fall weather is in full swing in Kansas and we are loving it! Now, I'm just wondering what we are going to do once the temps drop too low for us to play outside!

4. This pillow from Tiny Prints is even better in person. I'm obsessed and can't wait to use it at Scarlett's second birthday! It's a lot bigger then it looked online and the quality is just as nice as her other pillows! Very impressed Tiny Prints!

5. Honest Diapers! We are still working on potty training over here, but I know if I just committed Scarlett would be potty trained in no time! She loves sitting on her potty and using it before the bath, I just need to be more diligent about it. Anyway, she's still using honest diapers and I just got baby boys bundle in! He is officially stocked on diapers and wipes when he gets home from the hospital. It's so fun to have the cute girl prints and now the boy prints as well!

37 Weeks

Thursday, October 16, 2014

I haven't done one of these in a while so I decided why not start when I'm almost at the finishing line.

Weekly Status: 37 weeks. I'll be 38 weeks in just 2 days!

Total Weight Gain/Loss: Ahhhh. I think I have gained a total of 30lbs so far.

Maternity Clothes: gosh...I'm so ready for my regular clothes! I can only wear leggings, maternity tanks and open cardigans. I'm all about comfort right now.

Gender: Boy Boy Boy! I still can't believe it! I'm so excited to have one of each, you don't even know!

Movement: all the time, although they are more of rolls then jabs and punches. Also, he's head down! Yay!

Sleep: Sleep? What sleep?

What I miss: Getting down on the floor to play with Scarlett without feeling uncomfortable, I miss wearing my old clothes, I miss rocking Scarlett to sleep without it hurting my belly. Ok-I miss a lot of things. It's so hard to be pregnant the second time when you already have a little one running around!

Cravings: Nothing in particular. I'm getting kind of full at meals, because he's taking up so much room. I do always feel super thirsty though, so I have been drinking a lot of water.

Best Moment This week: Soaking up every minute of the day with Scarlett, before she becomes a big sister and we become a family of four.

It's hard to believe he will be here in just 2 short weeks. I keep finding my self wonder what he will look like, what Scarlett will do when she sees him, etc. Life just amazes me...I'm always in awe of how we started out this family with just Wes and I and then quickly added Scarlett and now another one. They feel like they have always been apart of us and I guess in some way or another they have. God truly is amazing with the blessings he decides to give us. Happy Thursday everyone.

That dinner you make when your husband works late...

Wednesday, October 15, 2014

My hubby works late a lot of nights and they will order out at the office, so that leaves me just preparing dinner for myself and Scarlett. When Wes is here I will always make a big meal, nothing complicated but a main dish and some sides. But when he works late this is my go to. It seems completely random, but I always feel so healthy and satisfied after I eat this.

First up I always bake some sweet potatoes (around 4 or 5 little ones or 2 big ones), I like to cut mine up and sprinkle with some seasoning and olive oil.

*layer on baking sheet with parchment paper
*sprinkle with your favorite seasoning (try garlic, paprika, or cumin)
*Bake at 375 degrees for 20 minutes

While those are baking I always make a green salad, usually its whatever veggies I have on hand. Tonight I had only tomatoes and cucumbers so I added a little peppered feta.

*baby tomatoes
*cucumbers
*feta
*salt and pepper
*olive oil

That's it and I swear you will feel fully satisfied after eating those sweet potatoes. They are loaded with nutrients and vitamins. What are your go to meals when you are on your own?

Planning a 2nd Birthday

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Scarlett's 2nd birthday is fast approaching and I am currently shedding a tear writing that. I feel like it was just yesterday I was holding her in my arms as a tiny little baby. With her brother here anytime now I want to make sure I make this birthday special for her. I also want to make it simple but meaningful. What I don't want to do is stay up hours upon hours constructing decorations and memorabilia with a newborn in my arms. Yep, not happening... I wish I was more crafty, but to be honest I think sometimes scouring Pinterest for hours can do more harm then good, because when it comes down to it I think doing what you love is best. Here are some of things that I plan on doing to make Scarlett's 2nd birthday sweet, memorable, and most of all simple.

1. Cupcakes from my favorite local cupcake spot.

2. Balloons-I'm thinking at least one big 2 and lots of light pink or mint ones around the house

3. Custom pillows and invitations from Tiny Prints

4. Scarlett's favorite book for birthday guests to sign (a little tradition we started last year)

Pumpkin Patch 2014

Monday, October 13, 2014

This was our first Pumpkin Patch we went to this year and it turned out to be a great one. Every year I'm realizing Kansas really knows how to do Fall right. Every activity at this place was geared to little ones and Scarlett had so much fun.

Five on Friday

Friday, October 10, 2014

I Love Five on Friday, because it pretty much sums up all the random stuff taking over my brain over the week.

1. This apple crisp. We have a bunch of apples and I am just dying to whip up this little recipe.

2. This chap stick has been my go-to these past weeks. I love the scent and it makes me happy every time I put it on.

3. These chips! Buy a bag and thank me later! Seriously so good!

4. Mom's One Line A Day-I got this when Scarlett was born and it's so much fun to look back and read what we were doing last year around this same time. I'm really trying to be better about filling it out. I now need to hurry and get baby boy one!

5. This girl and my old barbie doll who she calls daddy! ha ha It's the cutest thing!

Scarlett loves...

Thursday, October 9, 2014

This girl has completely captured my heart. I can't believe she is almost 2. Time seems to be flying by and I find myself everyday wanting more time. She is becoming such a little girl and not a baby anymore. I titled this post Scarlett loves, because there are a few things she can't go a day without and I don't ever want to forget what her favorites were when she was this age.

Goodnight Moon-Every night she runs to get this book and can basically recite the whole entire book by memory. This is defitantly her favorite.

Aden and Anais security blankets-Out of all the lovey's I bought her these are her favorite and its no surprise since I love everything this company does. She has a total of 8 of them! And she requries all of them with her. For some funny reason she calls them "mimis" I have no idea why, but it's so cute.

Jellycat bunny- We got this for her on Easter this year and it has quickly became her best friend. I will catch her hugging and kissing him when she thinks I'm not looking. She even tries to give him bites of her food. Melt my heart!

What are your kids favorites?

October Weekend

Tuesday, October 7, 2014

This past weekend was such a great one. We wanted to go to a pumpkin patch, but just couldn't find the time, so hopefully we make it this weekend. Instead we enjoyed playing outside a ton and just spending time together.

Playing in our backyard with lots of toys of course.

Watching Hocus Pocus for the first time, I can't believe how into it she was!

Play dough making. She could play with this for hours. I keep telling myself that I'm going to make some fall themed homemade play dough, but who am I kidding that will never happen.

Pushing her stroller. Love this jacket from the Gap! I got it at the beginning of the summer for $10! Such a bargain and she's been getting tons of great use out of it!

Had to include these two, because they are the best and we officially fallfied (is that even a word) their collars.

Go Royals! We had so much fun at this game and it was a great date night too!

Eating Lunch at our favorite K.C. spot!

Lastly, on Sunday I picked up this adorable Gingerbread house kit from our Traders. It comes with everything you need to make a haunted house. I think this will be a great Halloween activity for us to do as a family together. I have been seaching the web like crazy for things to do with toddlers, but other then painting pumpkins there's not much. Everything seems like it would only hold their attention span for about 5 minutes, plus who wants to spend 2+ hours cutting out felt or pieces of paper to make a pumpkin? Maybe when they are older...
